In our everyday lives we don't reflect much on the common social rules and behaviours of our culture. A trivial example for this would be greeting someone with the word “hello” and perhaps shaking his hand. These unconcious behaviours come to our awareness if we meet someone who might not be able to react in a way we expect, forcing us to rethink actions we are accustomed to, causing insecurity or even fear.
“Anders ist nicht normal” (being different is not normal), contains information in pictures and texts, about the most common behaviour patterns people often fall back to out of helplessness, when confronted with a mentally disabled person. Purpose is to raise the awarness towards the own negative behaviour and the reasons behind it, reducing insecurity, hopefully resulting in a more relaxed contact.
